Saturday Morning Liturgies - Novus Ordo

On July 7, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI issued a letter called, Summorum Pontificum. In this letter, the Holy Father speaks of one Roman Rite with two forms: the ordinary form and the extraordinary form.

The ordinary form was promulgated in 1969 by Pope Paul VI. In Latin, it is called the Novus Ordo which means the "New Order," of the Roman Missal. Most of us are familiar with the Novus Ordo in English, but the official language of the Church is in Latin. In fact, the Fathers of Second Vatican Council, Pope John Paul II, and Pope Benedict XVI have asked that all the faithful be familiar with the liturgical responses in Latin.

On Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. the ordinary form of the Roman Rite is celebrated. Again, it is the same liturgy that we pray in English Sunday to Sunday only some parts are prayed in Latin, while others are prayed or spoken in English. For example, the readings, the Collect, the Prayer over the Gifts and the Prayer after Communion are all done in English. Booklets are provided to assist the faithful's participation. Please join us any Saturday morning.
